Write an excellent entry to the New York Times STEM Writing Contest!
- Winning essays will be published in the New York Times online!
- 4 online workshops with a small group of teens from around the world + 2 individual coaching sessions
- Taught by Ms. Ann, a professional writing coach and former journalist
- Learn to write clearly about complex subjects, write with flair, use good grammar, cite sources properly.
- Dive into any science or health subject that interests you and explain it to readers of the New York Times
- Submit your finalized, polished 500-word essay to the contest by the end of February
- Cost: USD300
Format
Four one-hour small group workshops PLUS two one-hour individual coaching sessions with Ms. Ann to refine your topic, structure your essay logically and polish your draft. Each week, you will learn how to make your essay better.
Also included: proofreading of your final draft and tip sheets to guide you as you write.

Saturday, 5 Feb: Writing clearly about complex topics
Feb 6-11: Meet individually with Ms. Ann
Saturday, 12 Feb: What makes good evidence? How to cite experts
Saturday, 19 Feb.: Putting information into context. Why is it important?
Saturday, 26 Feb: Writing with style (grammar, voice, theme)
Feb 27-March 5: Meet individually with Ms. Ann to polish your entry
