Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
Here’s a happy announcement from me: I’ve just been chosen as a judge of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, a prestigious writing competition for teenagers in the U.S. It has regional and national winners, and scholarship money is attached.
I’ll be reading short pieces in the personal essay/memoir, journalism and critical essay categories. I’ll be scoring them on originality, technical skill and emergence of a personal voice. Thanks to the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers for sponsoring the contest. For this one I will not be coaching students to enter the competition, for obvious conflict-of-interest reasons.
January will be a great time to drink a hot cup of tea and read emerging writers!
